As the founding institution of the University System of Maryland, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, is Maryland's leading educator of health care, human services, and law professionals.With seven professional schools and a graduate school, the university is dedicated to excellence in research, public service, and patient care. It is home to nationally-ranked programs in medicine, law, nursing, pharmacy, social work, and dentistry; and launched a School of Public Health in 2006. External support for research reached $410 million in 2005, an increase from $114 million in 1995.The University of Maryland, Baltimore, also launched a new era in biotechnology with the opening of the UMB BioPark.
