USM Civic Education and Civic Engagement

Educating for democracy is an essential part of the USM's mission to serve the people of Maryland. Our universities' strong focus on civic education and civic engagement (CECE) prepares students to be responsible citizens, contribute to the civic health of their communities, and preserve our democracy. Civic engagement is a key ingredient in multiple priorities in the USM's Strategic Plan, Vision 2030.

University CECE Offices and Programs

The USM's Civic Education and Civic Engagement initiatives are directed by the USM Office of Academic and Student Affairs and guided by a CECE Council that includes representatives from all 12 USM universities.
